Legionella and the risk of bacteria in Hotels

How outdated hotel water systems not treated with ECA are at risk of spreading disease through bacteria such as Legionella. Use Radical Waters solution today.

Legionella

With the recent outbreak of listeriosis, it has become even more abundantly clear that clean water and water systems are vital. Listeria Monocytogenes (the bacteria causing Listeriosis) is far from the only threat to clean water however. Beyond Listeria monocytogenes, there unfortunately has been many other bacteria to plague hotels using old water systems. One of those being Legionella, a huge hazard to any hotel that does not take proper care of their water processes.

The genus Legionella is a pathogenic group of bacteria commonly found in its natural habitat of freshwater locations. These locations include environments such as lakes and rivers. It begins to threaten our health once it grows and makes its way to human-made water systems, such as those found in hotels and other places of hospitality. Once it is within a system, the contaminated water becomes easily spreadable to humans. Breathing such water can contract the host with a disease called Legionnaires’ disease, which is a type of pneumonia caused by the bacterium Legionella pneumophila. This disease can be fatal if not treated in time. The common sources which spread the bacterium include hot water tanks and heaters, hot tubs and showers/faucets, all of which are very ordinary in hotels. Being lackadaisical with your water system has shown to be a massive problem for many hospitality locations. A study conducted in 2007 found that the Legionella colonization frequency in Greek hotels was over 20%. Source.

Considering that the bacterium was first discovered in 1989 it may be surprising to some that it continues to be a major complication for the hotel industry. The reason? Many water systems found in hotels are outdated and staff are often negligent with their operations. The solution? Installation of Radical Waters ECA (Electro-Chemical Activation) Anolyte generators provides building operators with the piece of mind that they are doing everything possible to protect people from infection.

Minimize risks today, use ECA.
