PRESS RELEASE: RADICAL WATERS AND EUROPEAN DISTRIBUTOR ACTIVTEK TO INSTALL TWO ECA HYGIENE DEVICES AT UBAGO GROUP IN SPAIN

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

20 August 2014

Radical Waters, leaders in Electrochemically Activated (ECA) Water Hygiene Solutions, in conjunction with its European distributors ActivTek, will install two ECA Hygiene Devices (ECA Generators) at the UBAGO Groups facilities in Malaga and Cadiz in Spain.

With an extensive infrastructure network and plants in Spain, Morocco, Cape Verde and Russia, UBAGO’s main products are canned fish, smoked fish and salted fish. UBAGO’s processes are largely automated with strict adherence to food safety.  The large Fish processing Company sets the benchmark of food safety in Spain and Europe.

“After having successfully helped some big players in the food industry reduce their biological contamination, thanks to the ActivTek air purification technologies, it seemed only logical that we could help UBAGO prevent microbial growth during the cleaning, preparation and packaging of their products, by applying Radical Waters Technology. These applications will open many doors and help us approach similar industries, and we thank our own Oscar Romero’s vision and perseverance on this” stated Christophe Suchy CEO ActivTek, Spain.

ECA AND FISH PROCESSING

“ECA solutions have and can be used for ice manufacture, treatment of fresh fish prior to processing, treatment of product post-filleting, treatment of fillet conveyors, preparation and decontamination of batter and the preparation of fresh fillet portions. “ says Philip Nel VP R&D and Technical at Radical Waters.

In 2009 Radical Waters conducted a trial with 3 international fishing companies. The results provided an overall reduction in microbial counts on freshly gutted fish. It was further noted that through the treatment of fresh fish with ECA based ice and baths, the overall yield of the fresh product increased by 1%.

“A major hindrance to product quality is the risk of unforeseen spoilage, closely followed by costly product returns. Fish processors usually aim to avoid this at all costs through extensive quality efforts which go on behind the scenes, including careful monitoring of their food safety management system” added Nel Possible uses at UBAGO will include the water room (fish cleaning and evisceration, conveyors, brine injection and maceration) as well as in packaging. Furthermore ECA will be used in surface disinfection and cleaning procedures.

“ECA will be used in the various production processes at UBAGO, as a complementary hygiene solution along with traditional means for the time being.  ECA will mainly be used to enhance quality and reduce risks on production processes at this stage.”concludes Suchy.
