Dion R Friedland - Chairman

Dion Friedland became a major investor in Radical Waters, www.radicalwaters.com in early 2004 and has since acquired majority control. His extensive global contacts will be leveraged to facilitate the marketing and utilization of Radical Waters ECA devices throughout the world.

Dion Friedland was born in Pretoria, South Africa, in 1943. His father was a lawyer. While attending university at the age of 18, he started selling clothing to other students and soon had 20 part-time salespeople. While at law school, at the age of 19, he worked as a part-time sales representative. He opened his first discount store, Rave, at the age of 20. Rave Discount Stores prospered and became a public company via a reverse merger in 1968. He sold the company in 1969 to the 2nd largest retail company in South Africa and started Dion Discount Stores in 1970. Dion Stores became the largest hard goods retailer in South Africa before he sold the company in 1985. During the mid 1970's he left South Africa and was the Executive Vice President for a subsidiary of the Dayton Hudson Corporation (now Target Stores) in Boston, USA.

In January, 1981, at the suggestion of the Government of Anguilla, he bought the lease on the Cap Juluca site and entered into a new lease with the Government of Anguilla. Friedland owned 100% of Cap Juluca Hotel, which under his guidance became one of the top resort hotels in the Caribbean www.capjuluca.com. He sold Cap Juluca in April, 2008.

In 1978, he founded Mandev International, which under his stewardship became the world's largest retail sales and management training consulting company, with offices in the US, Canada, Holland, the UK, Australia and South Africa. His clients included Southern Sun Hotels, Macys, Bloomingdales, Ford Motor Company, Toyota, Volvo, John Deere and hundreds of leading retailers worldwide. His training programs using behavior modelling were available in seven languages and became the benchmark for training programs still in use today. In 1980 he co-authored a book, People Productivity in Retailing.

In 1994, Friedland founded the Magnum Group of funds www.magnum.com that allocate assets to hedge funds and other investment vehicles. He was the founding president of the Hedge Fund Association www.thehfa.org which he headed for seven years until January 2004 when he stepped down. Mr. Friedland has been a frequent speaker at hedge fund and financial conferences and has been interviewed on CNN, CNBC (Big Interview of the Day) and on national television in Japan.

His other business interests include ten motor dealerships around London www.smc-cars.com ; an art distribution business which supplies fine art to art dealers www.friedlandart.com ; a business in South Africa assisting institutions trace and distribute unclaimed benefits to their rightful beneficiaries www.brs.co.za. He is a significant investor in a wood pellet plant in Richards Bay, South Africa www.renuenergy.co.za.

 

Alastair Stride – Managing Director

Alastair Stride – Managing Director

Alastair Stride studied at the University of Witwatersrand and qualified with a Bcomm in 1994.   Thereafter he joined the Freddy Hirsch Group and became the production and logistics manager of their spice plant at Montague Gardens.

Alastair joined the Magnum Group in 1999 where he managed a hedge fund company which offered private investors the opportunity to access hedge funds abroad that were under normal circumstances, only available to institutions.  Alastair has also spent a number of years consulting to various companies, assisting in restructuring companies and assisting in legal matters as a financial expert.

Alastair became a director on the board of Radical Waters and Radical Waters IP in 2004 after the company had been purchased by an overseas consortium controlled by Dion Friedland. He later joined Radical Waters as General Manager in 2005 to assist in the transformation of the company from a research and development focussed company to a sales and marketing focused company. He was made managing director in 2006.

Dr. Robin Kirkpatrick – Technical Director

Dr. Robin Kirkpatrick – Technical Directo

Dr. Robin Kirkpatrick studied at the University of Witwatersrand.  After having already received numerous academic qualifications in the fields of Natural Sciences, Veterinary Science, Medical Physiology, Marketing Management and Business Administration, he has recently completed his Doctorate in applied Microbiology.

Robin actively practised as a Veterinary Surgeon in Namibia for several years, thereafter he moved over to Cyanamid Animal Health and assumed the techno-commercial responsibly for the Animal Health profit centres in Sub-Saharan Africa.

Robin joined Radical Waters in 1999 as a Business Development Manager and was appointed Director in 2001.

Currently as Technical Director Robin has the responsibility for all aspects of discovery, research and development within the organisation.

Andrew P. Block - Director

Andrew P. Block - Director

Andrew Paul Block attended college in Philadelphia at the University of Pennsylvania. He graduated with a BS in Economics from the Wharton School of Business.

For almost 20 years Andy was the President/owner of Streiff Jewellery Company. Streiff was a wholesaler (importer/distributor of watches and jewellery) to the jewellery trades in the south-eastern US and Caribbean Islands. Thereafter, he created and managed a start-up internet company called BelGem. This was a diamond import company selling diamonds directly imported from the Antwerp, Belgium manufacturers to the merchants (Jewellers) throughout the United States.

More recently, Andy has been extensively involved in researching and marketing hedge funds and in buying, selling and leasing commercial properties throughout the South Florida area.

Andy will be involved in the marketing and promotion of Radical Waters devices in the Americas.

David R. Friedland - Director

David R. Friedland - Director

David R. Friedland is President of Magnum U.S. Investments, Inc., which serves as a consultant to a number of funds and hedge funds, as well as a number of banks and institutions. Magnum tracks, evaluates and combines hedge funds into a variety of funds of hedge funds to meet specific risk/return criteria for high net worth individuals and institutional clients. Magnum has also sponsored several single manager hedge funds covering a range of different strategies. David is the president of the general partner of the Magnum funds of hedge funds, and Magnum-sponsored single manager hedge funds available to U.S. taxable investors. Magnum has been managing funds of hedge funds since 1994.

David is head of new business development, and the legal department at Magnum, and is a frequent speaker at financial and hedge fund conferences around the world. He has authored several articles on hedge funds, made several appearances on CNBC, and is the President of the Hedge Fund Association.

David received a BBA in Finance cum laude and a JD (law degree) magna cum laude from the University of Miami, and is a member of the Florida Bar. He also holds his Series 7 brokerage license.

Anthony Kessler - Director

Anthony Kessler - Director

Anthony Kessler qualified as a Chartered Accountant in England in 1978. He spent 13 years with the Stonehage Group becoming their Group Finance Director. Anthony has been Director of Ark Professional Services Ltd since 1999 providing accounting, admin and other services to individuals, Companies and Trusts. He is also on the Boards of 3 other UK companies.

Clifford Rostowsky - Director

Clifford Rostowsky - Director

Cliff Rostowsky studied at the University of Cape Town and qualified with a B.Bus.Sci. (Finance) (Hons) in 1985.

Following his articles with Arthur Andersen and completion of the Board exam, he qualified as a CA (SA) in 1989. He spent a year overseas working in London and then joined Datakor Limited thereafter in its corporate finance division.

In 1993 he joined a family business, Businessland, the leading computer retail business in South Africa at the time, as a director and shareholder.

In 1995 the shareholders sold Businessland to Waltons Stationery Company Limited. In 1997 Waltons Stationery Company Limited was acquired by The Bidvest Group Limited.

Bidvest is an international services, trading and distribution company, listed on the JSE, South Africa and operating on four continents. It is the largest industrial company in South Africa by revenue. It is ranked in the Forbes Global 2000 list of the world's largest and most influential companies.

Following this acquisition, Cliff was appointed as Financial Director of Bidoffice (the office products division of Bidvest consisting of 13 companies operating within the stationery, furniture, printing and office automation industries). Following a restructure in 2006, Cliff was made responsible for all the companies operating within the stationery and furniture industry within the Group.

Cliff is a director of numerous of The Bidvest Group subsidiary companies.

John Rivers-Moore – Commercial Director

John Rivers-Moore – Commercial Director

John Rivers-Moore completed his Bachelors of Commerce and Accounting at The University of Witwatersrand before completing his articles at Price Waterhouse. Thereafter as a qualified Chartered Accountant he worked in Chicago, USA and London, UK for several years. On returning to South Africa in 1996, John joined Tiger Brands as Financial Director of the dominant milling and baking division.

Five years later John began a banking career with HSBC and in 2003 joined Standard Bank, where he held the positions of Director of finance and strategy, and then Sales and Strategy in the home loan division of the retail bank.  John was also on the board of Diners Club (Credit Card Division of Standard Bank) and Blue Banner (A securitisation vehicle owned by Standard Bank). He joined Radical Waters in 2009 in order to optimize expansion opportunities.
